Waldraut S. Lavroff from Georgia

Being ‘In tune with nature’ is how I have always thought of myself. I was born and grew up in a forested area of Central Germany. My first friends and earliest playmates were animals. The wild birds coming for seed at our windowsills had names, and as a child I was convinced that the birds knew the names I had given them.

When I came to the United States as an adult I marveled at not only the enormous size of this land, but also its beautiful nature. I found it difficult to understand how some areas could have been devastated by careless development, not only in cities but in rural areas as well. I still find it hard to believe that abandoned cars engulfed by weeds can be in such close proximity to houses in which people live!

Why I Choose To Support The Conservation Fund

A few decades after coming to the US, I met Georgia state director Andrew Schock of The Conservation Fund through my involvement with an Atlanta neighborhood land conservation group. It did not take long to see that the Fund’s work and my interests were related. After finding how effectively and efficiently the Fund is administered, I decided they deserved my support.
