Dan Schlager

Wyoming State Director

DanSchlagerDan is our Wyoming State Director and leads The Conservation Fund’s efforts across the state. Dan brings uncommon perspectives to integrating conservation and economic objectives, based upon his extensive experiences problem solving on land transactions from non-profit, landowner, and socially responsible private investment perspectives.

At the Fund, in addition to his Wyoming work, Dan supports acquisition work across the country through service on the Fund’s Conservation Acquisition Committee. In the 1990s, Dan directed and executed land protection efforts in Wyoming for the non-profit Jackson Hole Land Trust.

Prior to joining the Fund in 2016, Dan founded Conservation Solutions, which worked across the Northern Rockies and in Hawaii, and which he led and managed for 19 years. With dual bottom-line goals, Conservation Solutions collaborated closely and cooperatively with landowners, utilized its private investment capital to make land investments, and crafted creative value-add conservation solutions to achieve the double benefit of land conservation and economic return objectives.

Dan has completed in excess of $150 million in land conservation transactions and has raised tens of millions of dollars in private investment and public funds in helping to conserve multiple tens of thousands of acres of critical lands across a wide variety of landscapes, including working ranches, sustainable working forests, sensitive river frontage, public parks, scenic viewsheds, critical wildlife habitat, and historic battlefields. This breadth of varied experience helps inform Dan’s problem solving approach in advancing conservation in an economically responsible manner.

Dan holds an M.S. in Resource Conservation from the University of Montana School of Forestry, a J.D. from the Boston University School of Law, and a B.A. in Conflict Analysis and Communications from the University of Pennsylvania. Dan enjoys river and mountain adventures with family and friends, and cherishes the meaningful memories and reflections that they forever create.
