John Gilbert Named Chief Financial Officer For The Conservation Fund

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Conservation Fund has appointed John S. Gilbert as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. He is responsible for the financial management and strategy of the organization while helping to sustain and accelerate its dual mission of environmental protection and economic growth.

Lawrence Selzer, President and CEO of the Fund said: “We are delighted and very fortunate indeed to have John Gilbert join our organization. His acumen in finance and investment banking brings crucial expertise to the Fund. As we continue to devise new and innovative models to attract significant funding to scale up urgent conservation priorities, John will be leading the way forward.”

In 1985, Gilbert joined JPMorgan’s investment banking division, and was its Managing Director and Senior Country Officer in London until 2014. In that capacity, he was responsible for investment banking activities in the Benelux and Nordic regions of Europe and for developing and implementing regional growth strategies across JPMorgan’s other global lines of business such as asset management, private banking and treasury services.

Gilbert was previously Vice President for Business Strategy at the Partnership for Public Service, an organization dedicated to improving the effectiveness of government and the strength of its human capital.

On his new position, Gilbert noted: “With its unique ability to align the interests of local communities, philanthropy, business and government, The Conservation Fund has a model with clear impact. I am excited by the opportunities to increase investments to support sustainable forests and agriculture, local food systems, restoration of urban green spaces, and to provide new means for impact investors to help us scale up all of our work.”

Gilbert graduated from Duke University with a degree in Public Policy Studies.

He succeeds David K. Phillips, who is retiring following 18 years as Chief Financial Officer at the Fund.
