The Conservation Fund Welcomes Academic, Business and Legal Leaders to its Board of Directors

ARLINGTON, Va. — Four distinguished conservation advocates have joined The Conservation Fund’s Board of Directors. David Bozeman, Vice President of Amazon Transportation Services for Amazon.com, and Jennifer L. Hernandez, Partner at Holland & Knight LLP, have recently been elected to the nonprofit’s Board. These prominent leaders follow two other directors, Ingrid C. Burke, the Carl W. Knobloch, Jr. Dean and a Professor of Ecosystem Ecology at the Yale School of the Environment, and Kevyn D. Orr, Partner-in-Charge at Jones Day.

At a critical time in our country, their perspectives from the academic, legal and business communities will be vital in advancing our mission of conservation and economic development. Each has a demonstrated ability for original thinking and new approaches, which are essential qualities for the Fund as it navigates toward continued success in protecting America’s treasured lands and waters, as well as advancing efforts to improve our economic vitality.”

As a U.S. focused nonprofit, The Conservation Fund works with public, private and nonprofit partners to protect America’s legacy of land and water resources through land acquisition, sustainable community and economic development, and leadership training, emphasizing the integration of economic and environmental goals. Since 1985, the Fund has protected more than 8 million acres across the country, from iconic landscapes like the Grand Teton National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway to the community park down the street and private farms and forests.

David Bozeman
David Bozeman is the Vice President of Amazon Transportation Services, where he oversees all aspects of Middle Mile transportation across Amazon’s global operations from air, sort centers, customer returns and surface transportation, enabling delivery of customer orders using technology to extrapolate the fastest and most convenient modes. Prior to joining Amazon, Bozeman was a Senior Vice President for Caterpillar Inc., with responsibility for the Caterpillar Enterprise System Group, and was Vice President of Advanced Manufacturing for Harley-Davidson Motor Company responsible for developing and overseeing the implementation of advanced manufacturing technology. He participates on The Executive Leadership Council and serves on the Board of Directors of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers Education Foundation and Bradley University's Board of Trustees.

“Conservation and sustainability are two areas that are critical for future generations, and I am personally passionate about doing more to spearhead efforts to protect and sustain the natural resources of our planet, today and in the future,” said Bozeman. “As a business leader I can use this energy and passion to make a positive impact in these areas and am pleased to be taking a seat on the board of The Conservation Fund at this critical time.” 

Dr. Ingrid Burke

A respected educator and intellectual leader in the U.S. and internationally, Dr. Ingrid “Indy” Burke is the Carl W. Knobloch, Jr. Dean and a Professor of Ecosystem Ecology at the Yale School of the Environment. Her research has focused on carbon and nitrogen cycling in semi-arid rangeland ecosystems. Dr. Burke is also particularly interested in fostering interdisciplinary scholarship and has taught at Colorado State University and the University of Wyoming, where she was the dean of the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources, one of the leading institutions in the western U.S. for research, teaching and outreach on natural resource issues. She serves the national and international scientific community and the natural resources conservation community through her participation on scientific panels, boards, and committees, with the goal of bringing science to critical policy issues.

Jennifer Hernandez
Jennifer Hernandez

As an award-winning and top-ranked lawyer, Jennifer Hernandez has practiced land use and environmental law in California over the last 30 years. She leads Holland & Knight's West Coast Land Use and Environmental Group and is the only California lawyer ranked in the top tier of both land use/zoning and environmental lawyers in Chambers USA. Hernandez has been recognized as the top environmental litigator of the year in the San Francisco Bay Area by Best Lawyers, and received a California Lawyer of the Year award from the State Bar of California for her work on the state’s largest and most innovative land use and conservation agreement between her private landowner client and five major environmental organizations. She has received numerous civil rights awards for her work on overcoming environmentalist opposition to housing and other projects needed and supported by minority communities.
Kevyn Orr
Kevyn Orr

Kevyn Orr serves as Partner-in-Charge of the Washington, D.C. office of Jones Day, where he provides strategic crisis management advice, identifying creative approaches to novel or first impression situations with an eye toward developing cost-efficient, business-oriented solutions. He has practiced in the areas of business restructuring, financial institution regulation, and commercial litigation for over three decades and has experience handling all aspects of complex and precedent-setting matters. Prior to rejoining Jones Day, Orr served as Emergency Manager of the City of Detroit and was charged with restructuring the city's finances and operations. During his tenure, he oversaw the largest and most complicated municipal bankruptcy proceeding in the nation's history,  for which he received numerous awards including the Turnaround Management Association's Mega Transaction of the Year Award.
