Colonel Tyler B. Smith, Utah Army National Guard

Camp W. G. Williams, commonly known as Camp Williams, is a National Guard training site operated by the Utah National Guard. The site is located approximately 25 miles south of Salt Lake City, in the western portion of the Traverse Mountains. Recently, The Conservation Fund and the National Guard Bureau (NGB) worked together to ensure protection of key parcels of land near Camp Williams. The partnership will keep significant working landscapes and wildlife habitat adjacent to Camp Williams intact. We recently spoke with U.S. Army Colonel Tyler Smith, with the Utah National Guard, about the benefits of protecting land surrounding the military installation. Colonel Smith is a Bronze Star recipient who deployed to Saudi Arabia/Kuwait in support of Operation Desert Storm in 1991 and to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2008.
