"Through the Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) administered by USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), the Milwaukee River Watershed Conservation Partnership (MRWCP) was awarded $1,500,000, leveraged by approximately $3,612,500 in partner contributed resources, to implement cost-effective conservation practices that will improve water quality and soil health along the impaired Milwaukee River corridor. We thank U.S. Senators Ron Johnson and Tammy Baldwin, and U.S. Representative Gwen Moore for the authorization of and funding in the 2014 Farm Bill for the RCPP.
"The MRWCP is a diverse coalition of partners, including: Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District working in partnership with The Conservation Fund; USDA NRCS and County land and water conservation departments; the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection; the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources; agricultural producers; agri-businesses, funding agencies; land trusts; Fondy Food Center; and participating municipalities.
"A major tributary to Lake Michigan, the Milwaukee River is plagued with water quality degradation caused in part by high levels of phosphorous and sediment-laden runoff. This program aims to address these challenges by working in collaboration with landowners to develop solutions and demonstrate how land management changes can improve water quality and enhance the health of the River, which is important for both our environment and our communities."
