Andy Ostmeyer, The Joplin Globe, 4 June 2015 – Tallgrass prairie once covered more than 15 million acres of Missouri, but today, less than one-tenth of one percent of it remains, according to Carol Davit, executive director of the Missouri Prairie Foundation. She estimates that about 90,000 acres are left, scattered around the state.
