Kellen Short, The Chattanoogan, 27 March 2015 – Grandfather Mountain’s iconic Mile High Swinging Bridge and Grandfather Trail are now among the newest sites available for 360-degree virtual viewing on Google Maps Street View. Through a partnership between Google, The Conservation Fund, Grandfather Mountain State Park and the Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation, visitors can now examine every angle of the 228-foot suspension bridge and the rugged hiking path to MacRae Peak with the few clicks of the keyboard.

All that is about to change. Now, it looks like the idea for an accessible observation platform on Sassafras Mountain, which straddles the North Carolina-South Carolina border, will get its day to sparkle in the sun, thanks to a $350,000 gift from Duke Energy to the S.C. Department of Natural Resources last week.
