Jerry Painter, Post Register — Congress’ recently passed Land and Water Conservation Fund is already providing benefits for eastern Idaho with a recent land acquisition. A large private inholding surrounded by public land in the Big Hole Mountains near Pack Saddle Lake has been acquired by the Caribou-Targhee National Forest.

Jacob Resneck, Alaska Public Media — A tribe in Southeast Alaska has won permanent protection for the site of an historic Tlingit village whose descendants claim centuries old ties to Glacier Bay. Complex negotiation secured 150 acres that had been eyed by commercial developers.

Tyler Barker, WOAY — West Virginia’s elk restoration project is wrapping up another successful summer at the Tomblin Wildlife Management Area in Logan County and the state’s herd continues to grow with the addition of at least 15 calves.

The project is a major conservation initiative and would not be possible without the help of key partners like The Conservation Fund which helped the WVDNR acquire tens of thousands of acres of land.

Tom Hallberg, Jackson Hole News & Guide — The Bridger-Teton National Forest just got a little bigger. Two hundred and forty acres bigger, to be exact. The Bridger-Teton, The Conservation Fund and the Jackson Hole Land Trust announced that the Loomis Park Ranch inholding had been transferred to the forest. The formerly private acreage, about an hour south of Jackson, was almost completely surrounded by public lands.

Molly Samuel, WABE — Atlanta has a new and very large park. The city signed paperwork to buy the Lake Charlotte Nature Preserve from The Conservation Fund, more than 200 acres of woods in southeast Atlanta.  Now, it will stay a forest, open up for public access, and serve as a huge piece in a possible future network of parks and trails in southeast Atlanta.

Johnna Crider, Clean Technica — Apple is making big changes to its supply chain and products by committing to be 100% carbon neutral by 2030. The company announced on its website that it’s already carbon neutral for corporate emissions globally and that it wants to bring its entire carbon footprint to “net zero.”

Marcus Schneck, PennLive — Land trusts in Pennsylvania conserved an average 55 acres per day every day since 2010, according to a report by the Pennsylvania Land Trust Association. A total of 64 land trusts own 121,197 acres in the state, with The Conservation Fund on top with 34,800 acres.
