When we at The Conservation Fund first heard about Giving Tuesday it seemed to be a clever concept and an exciting new way to present charitable giving directly to consumers. We put a small notice on our website and were surprised by the positive response. Our donors that first year loved it and said they wanted to be a part of it again next year.

In the remaining years, Giving Tuesday has become an international phenomenon. Now thousands of charities take part and it’s become a global movement of giving with activities in more than 100 countries.
It’s also become a great tradition for us at The Conservation Fund. The results have been amazing—we’ve gone from raising $3,000 the first year to $60,000 last year. Giving Tuesday is really an opportunity to celebrate all of the amazing conservation wins that our donors make possible each year. It’s our kick-off to a season of giving and a way to say thank you.

Our board members recognize that our work is more important now than ever, and they want to help make every donation to The Conservation Fund go even farther. That’s why we are thrilled to once again offer a challenge match to our donors—an incredible boost to giving that doubles your donation thanks to our generous board members. This Giving Tuesday (November 27, 2018) and until December 9, every online gift will be matched dollar for dollar (up to $150,000).
The Fund’s Parks With Purpose initiative is not just building urban parks like Lindsay Street Park in Atlanta (pictured here). We start by listening to the needs of residents to ensure that communities play an active role in the conception and construction of each park. Our conversations focus on job training, partnering with the city on maintenance, and ways to guarantee that the parks are thriving places for residents to gather for years to come. The public support from our board members coupled with a matching challenge makes a tremendous impact. We’ve attracted new social media followers, had many donors increase their support, and some even doubled their gifts to take advantage of the match.
Live Oak Farm is a 100-year-old family-owned rice farm in Louisiana that was at risk of being sold for non-conservation purposes. Their land plays a critical role for migratory birds; each winter, as the rice fields flood and become wetlands, nearly 70,000 waterfowl use the property as a resting stop on their way south. The Fund is helping to secure a conservation easement on the 5,800-acre farm so that it will remain privately owned, keep the agricultural integrity of the land intact, and help ensure economic resiliency for Louisiana farmers.
