The Conservation Fund celebrates today’s passage of legislation in the U.S. Senate that would permanently reauthorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF); permanently reauthorize the Federal Land Transaction Facilitation Act (FLTFA); and reauthorize the North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA) for five years, among other conservation victories.

"The Conservation Fund congratulates Amigos de los Rios on receiving the American Planning Association’s (APA) 2016 Award for Excellence in Sustainability for a Sustainable Park, Recreation, or Open Space Project for its work on the Emerald Necklace Forest to Ocean Expanded Vision plan for Los Angeles County. The plan protects water resources while expanding parks and green infrastructure, particularly in underserved L.A. communities. The APA Awards for Excellence in Sustainability honor projects, plans, policies, individuals and organizations whose work is dedicated to supporting and growing sustainable communities.

ATLANTA—U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) officials today joined 15 national and regional philanthropic partners to announce a new initiative to bolster the supply chain for local food systems around ten key U.S. cities. The project, dubbed 'Food LINC', will connect demand for local food in ten urban areas with supply from farmers and ranchers, strengthening each region's local food business sector and also increasing consumer access to healthy, local food. The announcement was made at the Wallace Center's National Food Hub Conference in Atlanta.

LINN COUNTY, Kan.—The Conservation Fund announced today the addition of 145 acres to the Marais des Cygnes Wildlife Area in east-central Kansas. The mostly-forested tract was purchased by the nonprofit using funds made available by Enbridge Pipelines (FSP) L.L.C. to provide mitigation for the Flanagan South Pipeline construction. The tract was then deeded to the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (KDWPT) for long-term stewardship.

From the hallowed battlefields of Gettysburg to the rugged trails that Lewis and Clark explored on their journey west, people can now explore, hike and paddle—via their digital devices—important historic and cultural sites protected by The Conservation Fund and its partners at Google Map’s Street View.
