VANCOUVER, Wash.— A diverse group of businesses, non-profits, recreational groups, agency and state leaders gathered today to call for reauthorizing the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the U.S. Forest Service’s (USFS) Forest Legacy Program, which is funded through the LWCF.

(September 3, 2015) – CSX and The Conservation Fund have teamed up for a second year with the West Virginia’s Department of Agriculture and local organizations to promote healthy eating habits and increased access to local produce for hundreds of children and families in McDowell, Roane and Mingo counties.

ERWIN, Tenn.—Today U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander, U.S. Representative Phil Roe, U.S. Forest Service Regional Forester Tony Tooke, and Deputy Commissioner Brock Hill joined other federal, state, local officials, community members and private partners to celebrate the completion of an extraordinary effort to conserve the largest stretch of unfragmented forestland in the southern Appalachian Mountains. Thanks in large part to funding from the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), the final 100 acres of the 9,814-acre Rocky Fork property is now protected, ensuring important wildlife habitat, water quality, recreational access and economic opportunities for neighboring communities.

GILPIN & BOULDER COUNTIES, Colo.—U.S. Senator Michael Bennet, federal, state and local partners gathered today to celebrate the conservation of one of the largest intact private properties along the Front Range, and they called for permanent reauthorization and full funding of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), America’s premier conservation program that will expire in 44 days.LWCF provided funding through the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) to conserve the historic 4,700-acre Toll property, leveraging local funding from Boulder County, Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) and Denver Water. Located at the upper reaches of the South and Middle Boulder Creek watersheds, the Toll property is critical for Denver and Boulder drinking water and important for a variety of recreation opportunities within easy access of both metro areas.

SOLON SPRINGS, Wis.—The Conservation Fund and The Lyme Timber Company hosted U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin, U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Deputy Under Secretary for Natural Resources and Environment Butch Blazer, the Office of U.S. Representative Sean Duffy, Wisconsin State Senator Janet Bewley, Wisconsin State Representative Nick Milroy and other federal, state, local and private partners at an event today to celebrate the completion of the largest land conservation effort in Wisconsin history. The Brule-St. Croix Legacy Forest success is due in large part to funding from Wisconsin’s Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program and the U.S. Forest Service’s Forest Legacy Program, through the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF)—the only federal program dedicated to the continued conservation and protection of America’s irreplaceable natural, historic, cultural and outdoor landmarks, which will expire in 44 days under the current authorization.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Pa.—The Conservation Fund and the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) announced today the protection of a significant forest property at Michaux State Forest, thanks in part to funding from the U.S. Forest Service’s Forest Legacy Program through the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF)—the only federal program dedicated to the continued conservation and protection of America’s irreplaceable natural, historic, cultural and outdoor landmarks, which will expire in 50 days under the current authorization. The new addition to the forest will offer multiple benefits, including habitat protection for state-listed plants and animals, local water quality protection, a working forest supporting timber jobs and a variety of outdoor recreational activities.

TULSA, Okla.—Williams and The Conservation Fund today announced 17 conservation projects which will receive more than $2.5 million in funding through the Atlantic Sunrise Environmental Stewardship Program. Together, these projects will restore over 10 miles of wildlife habitat along streams, prevent thousands of pounds of harmful nutrients from entering waterways, and support the construction of eight miles of new trails in central and southeastern Pennsylvania.
