The Blue Hill Heritage Trust purchased a 2,114-acre parcel of forestland in Surry, Maine, which will be known as the Surry Forest, with support from The Conservation Fund. The Trust will manage the property as a community forest for recreation, wildlife habitat protection and restoration, as well as forest education.

ARLINGTON, Va.—The Conservation Fund today announced the grant recipients for the 2016 Grant Program for Transporting Healthy Food. Eleven charitable organizations in Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, New York, Virginia and West Virginia will receive grants ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 to strengthen transportation and distribution of fresh, local produce and other healthy food to underserved communities.

A former three-term Congresswoman from Indiana, Long Thompson currently teaches Ethics for the Kelley School of Business and the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University Bloomington. Prior to her work at Indiana University, she served as the Board Chair and Chief Executive Officer of the Farm Credit Administration, a position to which she was appointed by President Barack Obama.
