WASHINGTON, D.C.—More than two dozen NGOs including conservation and outdoor recreation organizations announced their endorsement today for the Urban Water Federal Partnership, a collaboration of 14 federal agencies that aims to boost local economies and create jobs by restoring waterways and their surrounding communities.

ANACONDA, Mont.—The Conservation Fund and Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) announced today the protection and addition of 640 acres to the Garrity Mountain Wildlife Management Area (WMA) west of Anaconda. This project was made possible with funding from the Natural Resource Damage Protection Program, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF), FWP and the Montana Fish and Wildlife Conservation Trust.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Partnership for Gulf Coast Land Conservation, a program of the Land Trust Alliance, announced today the release of “A Land Conservation Vision for the Gulf of Mexico Region.” This landmark report unites multiple partners to identify priority focus areas for land conservation and economic revival in the Gulf of Mexico.

ANNAPOLIS, Md.—On November 6, Governor Martin O’Malley named Jodi R. O’Day Chesapeake Bay Ambassador, in recognition of her work in land conservation. The honor comes as O’Day, a vice-president and regional counsel of The Conservation Fund, marks 30 years of work to advance Maryland’s land conservation programs and environmental protection. The Maryland Governor awards the Chesapeake Bay Ambassador on a case-by-case basis in recognition of significant contributions to Maryland’s natural resources.

BATON ROUGE, La.—Today, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) and The Conservation Fund released an innovative vision for the wild places that make Louisiana the Sportsman’s Paradise. The 2014 Master Plan for Wildlife Management Areas and Refuges maps and evaluates every inch of the state’s rich tapestry of ecological and recreational resources – including 1.6 million acres managed by LDWF – and establishes a comprehensive strategic direction for management, future conservation, connectivity and restoration of these public lands.

HARLINGEN, Texas—The Conservation Fund and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) announced today the protection of 7,428 acres of ranch land near Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge in Willacy County. The land, protected through a conservation easement granted by the Frank Yturria family, provides vital habitat for two endangered species, the ocelot and the aplomado falcon.
