“We are very pleased that salmon produced at The Conservation Fund’s Freshwater Institute have achieved the top Best-Choice (Green) sustainability ranking by Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch program. The ranking specifically recognizes farmed Atlantic salmon produced in land-based closed containment Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS).

NATCHITOCHES PARISH, La.—Young cypress, oak and hickory trees will welcome tens of thousands of migrating waterfowl and song birds this fall as they rest at the Red River National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) near Shreveport during their annual migration. Thanks to a multi-year partnership between the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and The Conservation Fund, these critical lands along Refuge’s Lower Cane River Unit have been protected and restored for the benefit of wildlife and nearby communities.

COKER CREEK, Tenn.—Today, the hardships of the Cherokee people were remembered when the U.S. Forest Service and The Conservation Fund completed the final phase of an effort to protect the original route of the historic Trail of Tears near the Tennessee-North Carolina border. Approximately 222 acres was conveyed to the U.S. Forest Service from The Conservation Fund, providing protection for a significant portion of the National Historic Trail that traverses through the forested property.

MORGANTOWN, W.V.—The Conservation Fund, The Nature Conservancy, and the West Virginia Division of Natural Resource—allies in the permanent conservation of West Virginia’s Cheat Canyon—gathered today with funding partners and the community to celebrate this conservation success story and participate in the dedication of the canyon to the people of West Virginia.

ARLINGTON, Va—In West Virginia, one in five children does not have reliable access to sufficient food—especially healthy food—due to limited financial resources, lack of transportation and other factors. But CSX and The Conservation Fund are working to improve food security in these at-risk communities through a program that provides increased access and funding for healthy foods for hundreds of children and families living below the poverty line in five of the state’s lowest income counties: Calhoun, McDowell, Mingo, Roane and Wirt.
