HOLBROOK, Ariz. – Today, the National Park Service, The Conservation Fund and the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) celebrated the addition of  4,265 acres to Petrified Forest National Park.  Purchased by The Conservation Fund in January 2013 with a substantial contribution from NPCA, the lands are full of Late Triassic resources, including rare dinosaur fossils. The National Park Service utilized the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF)—America’s premier conservation program—to acquire the property.

LUFKIN, Texas —
 In a landmark deal for forest conservation, T.L.L. Temple Foundation, International Paper and The Conservation Fund announced today the completion of an effort to protect more than 19,000 acres of hardwood forest and wetlands in East Texas, known as Boggy Slough. The T.L.L. Temple Foundation purchased the property in fee from International Paper and agreed to donate a conservation easement over the entire property to The Conservation Fund. Located west of Lufkin, Boggy Slough contains some of the oldest and most ecologically significant hardwood forest habitat in East Texas and spans 18 miles of river frontage along the Neches River.  The former Temple-Inland property includes 4,500 acres of riverside forestland that has remained virtually untouched for decades.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Conservation Fund, in partnership with the Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries Program, purchased 4,737 acres in the Nueces River Delta  in San Patricio County. The acreage will ultimately become part of the Nueces Delta Preserve, creating more than 10,000 acres of contiguous conserved estuarine habitat for endangered and threatened wildlife species, protecting the fresh water flowing into Nueces and Corpus Christi Bays and expanding environmental educational opportunities offered by CBBEP.

MADISON, Wis. — The National Park Service and The Conservation Fund, with assistance from Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, celebrated today the addition of 5.89 acres to the Ice Age National Scientific Reserve, made possible with funding from the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF).

MAPLEWOOD, Minn. — The City of Maplewood announced today the completion of a two-year campaign to preserve one of the largest natural open spaces in the region. The 70-acre Fish Creek property was transferred to the City on December 11.  The scenic site, located north of the Highway 61 and Highway 494 junction, will be managed as part of the Fish Creek Natural Area Greenway for the restoration and protection of natural habitat and public open space.

SPRINGETTSBURY TOWNSHIP, Pa.—Springettsbury Township is pleased to announce the completion of a fundraising campaign to acquire the remaining 47 acres of land historically recognized as the site of Camp Security, a Revolutionary War-era prisoner-of-war (POW) camp. The site was transferred to the Township on December 6. Located just east of the City of York, this acreage has been saved from residential development thanks to the combined financial contributions and overall efforts of Springettsbury Township, The Conservation Fund, the Friends of Camp Security, York County, the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and other private donors.

The St. Joe Company recently announced that it has entered into a sales agreement with AgReserves, Inc., a Utah corporation, to sell more than 380,000 acres of its non-strategic timberland and rural land in Northwest Florida. The sale is estimated to be for $565 million.
