Ocracoke, N.C. — Today the Ocracoke Foundation announced the acquisition of the Community Square, a 0.5-acre waterfront property in the heart of the Ocracoke Island historic district. The Foundation was able to purchase the property with generous financial support from Foundation partners and The Conservation Fund’s Land Conservation Loan Program.

Juneau, Alaska — The Conservation Fund announced today the completion of a joint effort with the U.S. Forest Service to preserve the last privately-owned property on Whitewater Bay, part of the nearly one million-acre Admiralty Island National Monument. The U.S. Congress provided funding through the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), America’s premier conservation program, for this effort.

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.V. – Less than three years ago, the seafood industry questioned whether Atlantic salmon – one of the most popular fish in the world – could be grown in cleaner and healthier land-based systems. Earlier this month, more than 140 scientists, engineers, academics, fish farmers and suppliers, conservationists, government representatives, and innovative entrepreneurs from 15 countries came together to discuss not if it could be done, but rather how to improve the performance, sustainability, and cost of raising salmon and other fish in commercial, land-based aquaculture.

Jackson, Wyo. — A partnership between the Jackson Hole Land Trust and The Conservation Fund has enabled the permanent protection of a 37-acre property within crucial wildlife winter range in central Teton County. In late August, the USDA Forest Service acquired the property, with support from the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), and added it to the Bridger-Teton National Forest.

Juneau County, Wis. — The meandering waters of the Yellow River in Southwest Wisconsin play a critical role in one of only a few remaining bottomland hardwood forest ecosystems in the Midwest. Now a sizable portion of this important watershed is conserved, thanks to the efforts of The Conservation Fund and Juneau County.

“The Conservation Fund is honored to assist the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks in the establishment of the nationally significant Good Earth State Park. The Fund protected and acquired 254 acres of high quality oak woodlands, savanna and native prairie along the Big Sioux River in 2011 for the creation of South Dakota’s first state park in more than 40 years. Today’s dedication ceremony marks a conservation milestone not only because the land is considered the most important Oneota cultural site in the Midwest, but also because it is the state’s first Forest Legacy project.”
